NSYSU 0426-0427 Confirmed Cases Report (Revised)

To Faculty and staff members,

Greetings, and hope everyone is well!

The highly contagious variants have caused surges of COVID-19 across Taiwan, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC)’s statistics from January 1st, 2022 to April 26th, 2022 showed a total of 42,844 locally confirmed cases. University campuses across Taiwan also found increasing confirmed cases. Since the first confirmed case found in NSYSU on April 13, there has been a total of 10 confirmed cases up until now (April 27). Due to previous experiences, the University implemented contingency measures quickly and immediately conducted contact-tracing survey and notify possible contacts to ensure containment. Thanks to all the faculty and staff members in the front line working round the clock so our campus can maintain normal functioning and we can continue with daily activities.

Starting on April 26, the CECC announced a new home isolation plan. If one is found in close contact with a confirmed case, one shall follow the “3+4” plan, with three days of isolation followed by four days of self-prevention. During the four-day self-prevention period, one must be tested negative to allowed to go out; but not to come on campus for classes or work. All faculty and staff are required to cooperate with this new plan. Also, the University shall promptly update the  COVID information platform website with information on confirmed cases on campus, footprints on campus and relevant measures to offer reassurance for faculty and staff members.

According to the CECC and the Ministry of Education (MOE)’s suggestion, the University shall inform those in close contact with the confirmed case to stop in-person classes for 3 days as part of prevention effort to trace contacts and sanitize the environment. Also, rapid test kits will be prepared in stock in case for future needs. Currently, there is no need for large comprehensive testing but limited to testing those who may be in close contact through contact tracing results. Faculty and staff members who did not receive any notices shall not be worried. If any symptoms arise, please seek medical attention in nearby clinics and share your contact history with the doctor to determine if testing is needed. The University will notify faculty members if students in your classes are absent due to COVID. Students’ absence shall not affect their final grades and instructors shall offer online classes mode or make-up classes.

Furthermore, responding to the government’s new policy of substituting SMS Contact Tracing System with the Taiwan Social Distancing APP starting from April 28, the University has adopted the following measures at the temperature checking counters across campus:

  1. NSYSU members: check temperature & sticker, show the Taiwan Social Distancing APP or NSYSU ID.
  2. Non-NSYSU members: check temperature & sticker, show the Taiwan Social Distancing APP or fill out the visitors registration form.

A friendly reminder to all faculty to ensure classrooms are well-ventilated and sanitized. During classes, please do not eat or drink, maintain seating chart with full names and ID numbers, and take photos for future references; also wear masks at all times.  When having difficulties breathing due to wearing masks, instructors can take off masks only when it is well ventilated and social distancing is maintained.

Since everyone is in the frontline, please wash hands often, wear masks at all times maintain social distancing (download the Taiwan Social Distancing App to tract confirmed cases) and monitor your health conditions. It is strongly advised to complete the booster shot as soon as possible, and report to the campus health clinic immediately. If you receive an official notification due to overlapped footprint with confirmed case, for Home Isolation or Self-Health Management, please fill out the NSYSU COVID-19 Reporting System  so staff members from the Counseling and Health Service Division and the Personnel Office will offer assistance.

The University appreciates your cooperation greatly during these challenging times. We are asking everyone to stay alert and be supportive of each other for the well-being of the University and Taiwan.
